Across the country and around the world, sharks are some of the ocean’s most powerful and misunderstood animals. The U.S. Postal Service celebrated these incredible predators with Sharks Forever stamps, featuring realistic underwater artwork of five species that inhabit American waters: the shortfin mako, whale shark, pelagic thresher, scalloped hammerhead, and great white shark. The pane’s deep ocean-blue background gradually darkens as you look down the sheet, evoking sunlight fading into deeper water, and the great white image is repeated on the selvage at the top for extra impact.
